
The Trigg County girls’ cross country team are 2A 1st Region Champions after all 7 runners finished within the top 23 spots, with a total time of 1:51:20.61 and an average time of 22:16.13.
Leading the way for the Lady Wildcats were sophomore sisters Livi and Lexi Ricks. Livi won the race with a time of 21:11.93 and Lexi came in 3rd with a time of 21:34.48. For Livi, it was her third straight region title, equaling Belinda Byron’s three-peat in the early 1990s.
7th Grader Trinity Cavanaugh was 9th with a 22:41.18, freshman DeDe Barbie was 10th at 22:46.13, sophomore Rylee Bush was 14th at 23:06.89, freshman Phelan Dossett was 17th at 23:35.10, and sophomore Breeanna Barns finished 23rd with a time of 24:13.93. All the girls advance to the State Meet in Lexington next weekend.
While the Trigg boys finished 5th, just missing qualifying for state as a team, they had a good day nonethless, with three runners qualifying individually. Sophomore Apollo Blackbear Francis ran a 18:57.79, good enough for 12th, while sophomore C.J. Ahart was 19th with a 19:38.79, and senior John Chinn finished 23rd with a 19:47.15. They will join the girls’ team at the State Meet in Lexington.
Also running in the regional for the Wildcats were sophomore Alex Skinner (25th, 19:50.94), sophomore Tyler Freeman (27th, 19:53.79), freshman Ethan Futrell (38th, 20:46.02), and sophomore Jacob Kent (40th, 21:24.66).
