Madisonville made quick work of Trigg County in their opening round game of the Second Region Volleyball Tournament, bringing an abrupt end to the Lady Wildcats’ season. The Lady Maroons won 25-14, 25-8, 25-7 Monday in the quarterfinal round, keeping Trigg County winless in 10 trips to the region tournament.
Madisonville set the tone for the match by scoring the first eight points of the first set. Madison McCabe had five kills in the set for the Lady Maroons who never let Trigg County get closer than five points at any point in the set.
In the second set, Madisonville again got off to a fast start, using a 10-1 run midway through the set to take control.
The Lady Wildcats again played from behind in the third set and never challenged for the lead. Trigg was bothered by serving accuracy, committing eight service errors in the match.
Madisonville had no such problems in the service game with 20 aces and a 93-percent serve rate. Sophie Metheny had seven aces, while three others had at least three aces. Metheny also had eight kills, while McCabe added seven.
Lexie Wright had five kills, and Nyree Wilson had three for the Lady Wildcats, who ended their season with a record of 17-21.
Madisonville (25-10) will play Henderson County in Wednesday’s semifinals. The Lady Colonels beat UHA Monday in another quarterfinal.
