Trigg County and Madisonville have this first round thing in the Second Region Volleyball Tournament down pat. The schools meet in the first round for the third straight year Monday at 5:30 when the region tourney begins at Trigg County’s Wildcat Gym. Trigg County is hosting the region tournament for the first time since 2005.
Trigg County (17-20) is riding a four-game winning streak into the contest, capped by their third straight Fifth District title Thursday. They met Madisonville in their third match of the season Aug. 22 and lost badly in three sets.
Trigg County has dropped nine straight matches to the Lady Maroons dating back to 2008, with two of those coming in the last two region tourneys. Since the current region tournament format began in 2003, Trigg County is 0-9 all-time in the region tournament.
Madisonville (24-10) was 14-5 against Second Region competition this year. The Lady Maroons are 11-7 all-time in the region tournament and have won three straight first round matches. Their last region title came in 2006.
The winner of this match will play the winner of Henderson County/UHA Wednesday at 5:30pm.
