If the Hopkinsville Tigers hope to advance to the Elite 8 of the boys state soccer tournament, they will have to avenge one of the four losses they have suffered this season. The Tigers are set to take on Warren Central Monday evening at 7:00pm at the Stadium of Champions.
The two teams met back on September 9th as part of the Boots and Butts Soccer Classic, which was played at the Stadium. The Dragons 3-0 win was the only time this season that Hopkinsille failed to score a goal. The match began a very tough streak for the Tigers, one in which they lost four times in nine matches.
However, since that time Hopkinsville has won their last nine matches, with five of those coming by shutout. In the nine game winning streak, the only team to push the Tigers was Henderson County, who lost to Hoptown in a penalty kick shootout in the 2nd Region semifinals.
It is noteworthy that the Tigers beat the Henderson County Colonels, as Henderson County has been the only team to beat Warren Central. That contest was played September 16th at the Colonel Classic, with Henderson County coming out on top 2-0.
Warren Central is 21-1-0 on the season, and the Dragons have only been scored on in five of those contests. The last time the Dragons gave up a goal was in a 9-1 over Warren East on September 21st.
The winner of Hopkinsville-Warren Central will take on the winner of Campbell County and Mercer County on Saturday. Tiger head coach Tyler Stallons looks at the return matchup with the Dragons.
