Trigg County overcame a slow start to run off 47 unanswered points and blitz Hopkins County Central 53-14 Friday in what was senior night at Perdue Field.
Down 14-6 at halftime, Trigg County ripped off 25 points in the third quarter and 22 more in the fourth quarter as they rolled up 316 second half yards and held the Storm to 95 yards.
Jakobe Bridges, playing quarterback for the injured Cam Jordan, completed 16-of-27 passes for 264 yards, many of them short screen passes. He had touchdown throws of 61 yards to Kyron Grubbs and 19 yards to Zac McIntosh. Bridges also ran for 93 yards and two more scores.
Tayshaun Barker also had 93 yards rushing and two touchdowns as the Wildcats had 264 rushing yards and 272 passing yards. Kirome Bingham led the receivers with three catches for 100 yards, while Gabe Hardie had five catches for 60 yards.
Hopkins County Central (2-6) had 231 of their 262 yards in the air. Junior Jackson Bergant was 26-of-64 for 231 yards. He was picked off six times by the Wildcats, which tied a school record set in 1991 against Crittenden County.
Riley Stallons had three of the picks, one off Jaron Gilbert’s school record of four set in 2009. Stallons’ third interception was returned 100 yards for a score, tying a state record. It is the second time in as many seasons that Stallons had a 100-yard pick-six.
Sophomore Blasin Moore had 13 catches for 144 yards for Hopkins Central.
Trigg County (5-4) can clinch their first winning season in three years next Friday with a win at Union County. The winner of that game also clinches a three seed in the playoffs and a trip to eighth-ranked LaRue County in the first round of the playoffs. The loser will play at fifth-ranked Elizabethtown, who beat LaRue County 35-13 Friday.
