The Caldwell County Lady Tigers made it back to back 7th District championships with a 3-1 win over Madisonville Thursday night at Hopkins Central. The two teams spent much of the first half feeling each other out, cautiously looking for their opportunities to go on the attack.
The Lady Tigers got on the board first when Laney Fletcher scored at the 36:00 mark of the first half. The 1-0 lead would stand as the two teams battled for the rest of the first half. Solid defensive play by Caldwell County kept the Lady Maroons at bay throughout the half.
The contest continued that way until Emma Peyton got Madisonville on the board with 22:00 to go in the match. With Madisonville giving their best effort to force the action, Caldwell County responded as Meridan Giannini scored on a breakaway at 17:15 to go to push Caldwell County back in front 2-1. The Lady Tigers then sealed the match as Laney Fletcher snuck a wet ball through the goalie’s legs at the 78:00 mark to extend the lead to 3-1.
The win marked the second for Caldwell County over the Lady Maroons this season. The Lady Tigers won the regular season matchup in Princeton 1-0.
Caldwell County improves to 12-9-1 on the season and will enter the 2nd Region tournament as a district champion to face either Lyon County, Webster County, or Hopkinsville in their first round game.
