Christian County’s John Buchanan finished his fine high school golf career with a 35th place finish Wednesday at the Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac KHSAA Boys’ State Golf Tournament at the Bowling Green Country Club.
Buchanan shot a 4-over 76 on Wednesday for a two-day total of 9-over 153. He was the first Christian County golfer in over a decade to advance to the second day of the state tournament.
The Colonel senior started his day on the back nine and played well, shooting a 1-over 37 with eight pars and one bogey. After a birdie on the par-5 second hole, Buchanan struggled to find the fairway and bogeyed four of the next six holes to finish the back nine at 3-over. Despite Buchanan’s perceived struggles, he only double-bogeyed one of his 36 holes and finished with four birdies and 24 pars over the two days.
Lexington Christian’s Jansen Preston won the tournament with a 7-under 137, three shots better than defending state champion and day one leader Cullan Brown of Lyon County.
