The Hopkinsville Lady Tigers’ soccer team started well against the Henderson Lady Colonels at the Stadium of Champions Thursday night, but ran out of gas and lost 11-3. The Lady Tigers were in good shape, tied 2-2 with Henderson over halfway through the first half, and remained in striking distance down just 4-2 at the break. However, the Lady Colonels, top ranked in the YourSportsEdge.com 2nd Region rankings, would prove to be too much in the second half.
Just over five minutes into the second half Henderson had pushed the lead to 6-2, and remained in control the rest of the way. Junior defender Kyler Scheben and senior midfielder Avery O’Hara had first half goals for the Lady Tigers and sophomore Sarah Johnston got the second half goal that briefly cut the lead to 7-3. The Lady Colonels would tack on four more goals in the final 20 minutes, with Hopkinsville’s short bench leaving them worn down.
The Lady Tigers, ranked 3rd, fall to 4-4 on the season and have lost three of four heading into a big 8th District clash with 2nd ranked University Heights (5-1) on Monday at the Stadium of Champions.
