The Christian County Colonels carried the momentum of a score on the last play of the first half over to the beginning of the second half on their way to a 20-14 win over Henderson County Friday night. The two sets of Colonels battled to a scoreless tie until the very end of the first half, when Christian County quarterback Kolbe Langhi hit Ellis Dunn on a 5-yard scoring strike. The Colonels missed the extra point, and Christian County went to the locker room with a 6-0 lead.
That momentum continued into the beginning of the second half, as Christian County took the kickoff and then chewed up over six minutes of the third quarter on a scoring drive that was capped off when Langhi ran it in from 6-yards out to make it 13-0.
While the storms had passed from earlier in the day, lightning struck for the Christian County Colonels late in the 3rd quarter, when Corey Trice took a punt return 64-yards to the end zone, and extended the lead to 20-0.
Henderson County tried to rally in the 4th quarter as DaDa Simpson scored on a 6-yard run, with more than 8 minutes left in the game to cut the lead to 20-7. Henderson County got even closer as Colonel quarterback Skip Patterson took it in from one yard out, with just over three minutes left in the game to cut the margin to 20-14.
Christian County recovered an attempted onside kick, and was then able to hold on for the win. The Colonels go to 3-0 on the season, as they head into next week’s showdown with crosstown rival Hopkinsville. Henderson County falls to 1-2 on the season.
