After three consecutive ties, the Christian County Colonels were in the mood for their first win of the season Thursday night. In rainy conditions, the Colonels picked up that first win 4-2 over the Hopkins Central Storm at the Stadium of Champions.
The Colonels got on the board quickly and looked like they were ready to cruise over the visiting Storm. Luke Ferrell scored on a penalty kick at the 37:38 mark to put Christian County in front 1-0. Ben Settle scored the first of his three goals on the night at the 35:53 mark to extend the lead to 2-0. Hopkins Central would not go quietly, as the Storm rallied to tie the game at 2-2 at the half.
Christian County came out of the break with a renewed defensive focus, and Ben Settle completed his hat trick with two more goals, one on a penalty kick, as the Colonels were able to push their way out to a 4-2 win. Benito Rubio and Colton Choate had assists for Christian County.
The win comes after ties against Owensboro Catholic, Paducah Tighman, and Paducah St. Mary, and improves the Colonels record to 1-1-3 on the season, while Hopkins Central falls to 2-4. The Colonels are scheduled to return to action Saturday morning when they host Graves County.
