Trigg County’s Fenton Dawson Invitational Cross Country Invitational will debut a new course when the annual event is held next month. West Cadiz Park will host the cross country event Saturday, September 2 at 8:30am with nearly a dozen schools and over 180 runners set to compete.
The course at West Cadiz Park will be similar to a cloverleaf design and will allow spectators a chance to see the runners at five different points from the central picnic area. Parking will be available on the south side of the park.
Trigg County has used several scenic locations as a home for cross country meets. The first home course was at Boots Randolph Golf Course in the 1970s before moving to its most popular location at the entrance to Lake Barkley State Resort Park where home meets were held for over 25 years. The state altered their mowing plans at state parks which meant most of the course would not be mowed for the runners.
Trigg County moved their home meets to the Barkley Airport for a couple of years before the Federal Aviation Administration stepped in and said no meets could be held there for safety reasons. After a couple of years at the
Trigg County Recreation Complex, the Trigg cross country team is hoping the new location will be a permanent one.
