Trigg County High School volleyball coach, Doug Hargrove, enters his 2nd season with the Lady Wildcats after leading the team to an 18-16 record in 2016. Hargrove guided the team to an 11-8 record against 2nd Region teams and a perfect 7-0 district mark. The Lady Wildcats captured their second consecutive District 5 championship with a 3-0 win over Livingston Central, the fourth time Trigg beat the Lady Cardinals last season. Trigg’s season ended with a 3-0 loss to Madisonville North Hopkins in the first round of the 2nd Region tournament, the second of two matches the Lady Wildcats dropped to the Lady Maroons in 2016.
Coach Hargrove’s first order of business will be replacing four players lost to graduation. Carlaja Bacon, setter/libero Julia Pennington, setter/RS Alyssa Taylor and MH Katie Walker all move on, although Trigg does boast four returning starters. Senior middle hitters Lauren Oliver and Nyree Wilson are back, along with juniors MH/OH Lexie Wright and libero Chloe Williamson.
Coach Hargrove says he’s excited about the upcoming season and expects his team to continue to grow and develop, with the goal of becoming more competitive in the 2nd Region. The Lady Wildcats will open the season August 15th at Webster County. Trigg lost two matches to the Lady Trojans last season, the first at the RiverView Classic at Union County and the second in Henderson at the Jerry Mezur Spikefest. Coach Hargrove will take his team to Spikefest again this season on October 6-7, after going 1-4 there last season. They’ll also compete for the first time in the Quad State at the Paducah Sports Plex on September 29-30, and at Smackdown in Hopkinsville October 13-14, where they posted a 3-4 record in 2016.
