The Kyrie Irving trade request last Friday overshadowed a large extension made by the Washington Wizards and their star point guard. Former Kentucky star John Wall inked a four-year, $170M extension with the Wizards that will begin in 2019.
Last season was Wall’s best, averaging career highs in points, assists, steals and field goal percentage. Those numbers were good enough to land him on the All-NBA Third Team as well an All-Star appearance.
In the postseason, Wall lead the Wizards to Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Semi Finals against the Boston Celtics, who eventually pulled away late in the game to advance to the Conference Finals. The Wizards, however, have a bright young core of Bradley Beal, Otto Porter and Wall. The trio, barring a trade, will be together for at least the next four years.
